Last year the above caption read: Why would I do this again in 2007? I am very proud to say that I am not doing this again in 2008, but "We" are doing it again in 2008. Check out the 2008 Riders List and you will see what I am talking about. The first year (2006) I rode out of Chicago alone. Last year there were 18 Motorcycles and one VW that rode out of Chicago. Our goal this year is 100 Motorcycles and cars leaving Chicago with a police escort.
Probably the most important statement that could be made is: Why would we do this at all. There is a very simple answer. Each of us has been touched in one way or another by cancer. My wife Sue and I are both 23 year survivors, and each rider on this trip can give you a story. It may not have touched them directly, but maybe one of their friends, or a friends friend, a neighbor but someone.
All money collected for The Ride for the Relay goes directly to the Jacksonville, Illinois Morgan County Relay for Life and then on to the American Cancer Society. Our dollars are being spent on research to find a CURE for Cancer. My prayer for 2009 is that a CURE has been found and we can ride for another cause.
Each Rider on this trip pays 100% of their expenses. No money from our Fund Raising efforts go toward the trip expenses. You can figure that each Rider will pay around $2000 out of the pocket expenses. Some will pay much more depending on where they are riding from. On top of that expense each Rider that went All The Way raised money before the trip started.
