Founder: "Ride for the Relay"
I started the Ride for the Relay in 2006. I continue to be the leader and
hope to for many years. Retired in 2005 from the Trailer (horse,
livestock, flatbed gooseneck & etc.) manufacturing industry but continue to help
my wife (Sue) with her business, Time Square Sewing Complex in Jacksonville, Illinois.
We have been married for seven years. I have two children from my first
marriage and Sue has three children from a previous marriage. Together we
have 6 grand children. Sue and I are both 25 year cancer survivors.
I bought my first motorcycle in 1963, a 250cc Honda, while in the Air Force,
stationed in Japan. In my own words: Each year I do this, I
am more rewarded by the people who jump on the band wagon and get totally
involved in the Fun-raising effort. This year we had people that have rode
on all four rides, we have one that is a 3 time All the Way Gang member and numerous
riders that have rode more than once. My first year at the Big Texan Steak
Ranch in Amarillo there were 6 of us in the group, this year I am not sure of
the number but there was a bunch. I can't
describe how emotional this can become. I think the best way to describe
it is to invite you along so that you can personally get involved.
Remember even if you are in a car you are a rider and one of us. Our
oldest rider this year was 83 and become part of the "All the way Gang" and our youngest was 25. I am somewhere
in-between.
