Jim and Virginia Bruce came on the ride from Denham Springs, Louisiana. They have been married for 36 years and have two daughters and four granddaughters. Jim sold his Industrial Engineering Company and retired 14 years ago (at age 50) He wanted to enjoy his collections. He collects old signs, oil cans, gas pumps, tractors, motorcycles, cars and anything that is old. He has a shop to display all his collections.
Virginia just retired on June 30, 2009. She worked for the State of Louisiana as a Computer Analyst for 41 years. When she retired Jim bought her a 2006 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. Jim and Virginia had been wanting to take a trip on Route 66 and had been talking about it for years. They planned on taking the Route 66 trip in their 1955 Thunderbird Convertible, but it is still being restored and they decided to buy the Mustang and take it instead. Jim ran across the "Ride for the Relay' website and started taking to me about the trip and if it would be all right to take the car on the "Ride for the Relay" trip. So they decided it would be fun to go with a group and they knew it was for a good cause (Virginia's son died of cancer at age 42 in 2004), so they decided to join the group.
Will we ride next year? We are planning a trip to go from Key West, Florida to Canada (East Coast) for next September, but we definitely would like to take this trip again with the "Ride for the Relay All the Way Gang". Jim and I both enjoyed the trip and found everyone to be most friendly and lots of fun. We felt as if we made many friends for life. We are planning to make the "Team Time Square/Ride for the Relay" Banquet in Jacksonville, Illinois in February 2010.
Note:
We were a little concerned when we first decided to go, because we were the only
car, but we were able to keep up and fit right in with all the motorcycles.
As a matter of fact, it become even more special being in a car, when we found
out that our Mustang was the first four wheeler to be in the "All the Way Gang".
