Chicago, Illinois to Springfield, Illinois
Leaving Chicago at 9am arriving Springfield approximately 6pm

First of all let me tell you about the weather.  "This was the Day that the Lord Made", it was perfect.  This is a shot in my room where we had our meeting last night and just got somewhat acquainted  We left the Motel at 7:30am, fueled and coffeed up, headed down town to the Navy Pier.  After interdictions of everyone and putting the "Cancer Sucks" stickers on everyone's windshield we had a group photo with the members of our "Honor Roll" standing in front,  then a picture of the two "Hall of Fame" members,  then a group photo of everyone,  then another group photo with Jerry Thelander and myself holding our signs.  Before getting on our way at 9:am we had the "Blessing of the Bikes".  Here is a beautiful picture of the 27 bikes just before leaving Navy Pier.  Coming out of down town Chicago on Old Route 66 is quite a job but Steve Conro handled it quite well.  We had a couple get lost but we all hooked back up on down the road.  Before we hooked back up several of us stopped at Joliet Area Historical Museum.  While there I thought it would be a good time for Steve and I go get a picture together.  Elaine Stonich the Gift Shop Manager give us a wonderful greeting.  Of course I had to have a picture with Jake and Elwood,   Then back on the road, stopping at the Launching Pad for lunch.Last year we had on unusual bike on the ride and we called it the Yellow Thing.  This year we have three unusual bikes, here is two of them    I will try and post the third one tomorrow.  This is the back of the Museum in Pontiac,.  then we stopped for pictures with the big Weiner Man  Then it was on into Springfield.  We arrived about 5:45 and at 6:30 there were 25 of us that went to the Cozy Dog for dinner (supper), just enjoy looking at the pictures Some enjoyed the Cozy Dog's an others enjoyed just being Cozy   Dinner over and back at the Route 66 Motel, I walk into the lobby and there sets a buddy that I had wondered about all  day, Jim Davis from Athens, Illinois who had been planning for weeks on riding from Chicago to Santa Monica, the picture tells the story.  He had a problem with his ankle that is probably going to end in a operation.  Please send a prayer his way.  We are going to miss him on the ride.  Of course I had to end my day of picture taking with a Glamour Shot.
