Go East on Route 66     Why would I do this? Go West on Route 66

Last year (2008) we set a record for riders of the "All the way Gang" with 26 making it "All the Way".  We raised over $24,000 from our riders and sponsors, and great progress was made in finding a CURE for Cancer.

I am sure that 2009 "Ride for the Relay" will be the biggest and best ever.  Last year we had people from 17 states and Germany involved in our cause.  Over 100 riders went part of the way.  We were on TV in Springfield, Illinois and in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The city of Joplin, Missouri had a big "welcome to our city" Bar-B-Q (Ribs) just for our riders.  In Barstow, California, Jim Conkle (Owner of Preservation of Historic Roads and Corridors non-for profit group) came out and got acquainted with everyone and made a short speech at the end of the ride dinner.

I haven't mentioned all the sites along the way. Like riding across the Chain of Rocks Bridge and eating ice cream at Ted Drew's in St. Louis.  The Grand Canyon, Jessie James' grave site and Old Santa Fe, New Mexico.  The Painted Desert.  Going through Oatman, AZ and Needles, California before going across the desert and taking a break at Amboy, California (temp 114 degrees).

This is not just a ride, this is not just a fundraiser, this is a
life changing experience brought on by the meeting of new friends, getting the feeling of the "True America" and the people that makes this the greatest country in the world.

Check the 2009 Riders List.  Even if you aren't a rider, be a  part by becoming a sponsor.  This year's goal is $30,000 and your help is needed.  If you have questions, please call me (217-473-1525).

Probably the most important statement that could be made is:  Cancer touches everyone at one time or another, It may be a family member, friend or yourself but that is why we do this. My wife Sue and I are both 24 year survivors.  Each rider on this trip can give you a story.

All money collected for The Ride for the Relay goes directly to the Jacksonville, Illinois Tri-County Relay for Life and then on to the American Cancer Society.  Our dollars are being spent on research to find a CURE for Cancer.  My prayer for 2009 is that a CURE has been found and we can ride for another cause.

Each Rider on this trip pays 100% of their expenses.  No money from our Fund Raising efforts go toward the trip expenses.  You can figure that each Rider will pay around $2000 out of the pocket expenses.  Some will pay much more depending on where they are riding from.  On top of that expense Riders raise money before the trip started.

Do your part and be a sponsor

Don't give until it hurts, give until it feels good
